Back by popular demand: LEANing Together! A Lean Rapid Improvement event and contest in one, where ILC members positively impact the communities where they work and live! This collaborative experience aims to showcase the power of continuous improvement through friendly competition and hands-on learning while providing potential process solutions for a non-profit organization in Iowa. LifeServe Blood Center would like your help to save supply costs and find efficiencies in the inventory process!

On Wednesday, February 26, we will help LifeServe Blood Center with their blood bag inventory problems. LifeServe manages their blood storage bag inventory manually at individual sites. The inventory information is not in real-time, and incorrect information can get passed between sites and supplies. This leads to waste and they often find this line-item over budget.

The LEANing Together event will commence at 9:00 am at LifeServe’s headquarters in Johnston, featuring opening remarks by the ILC and the LifeServe Blood Center. Teams will tour the LifeServe headquarters, and hear from LifeServe staff directly about their problem for improvement and ultimate goal in order to understand the current state. Teams can use whichever CI tools they like to develop potential solutions, with LifeServe staff available to address any questions that may arise.

At 3:15 pm, teams will pitch their ideas to LifeServe Blood Center. LifeServe will consider the proposed solutions and select three potential solutions to test, designating one as the initial winner.

So, get your team together, or we will assign you to a team if you prefer. Team members do not need to be from the same organization. Together, you will collaborate to develop innovative potential solutions for our selected non-profit organization, LifeServe Blood Center. The cost of $30 per person covers supplies, snacks, and lunch. You need at least 2 people to form a team, and the maximum limit is 6 members per team. If you’re not part of a team and want to participate, you can register as an individual, and we’ll assign you to a team.
